My name is Brenda Dowedoff (n.Desjardins), owner of The Prairie Crocus. I come from a proud Métis family of mixed Cree, Saulteaux and French descent. I was born in Neepawa, Manitoba and raised in Treaty 2 territory. I currently reside in unceded Syilx territory in southern British Columbia, Canada.
The ”Prairie Crocus” is the national flower of the province of Manitoba, using that name to represent my work makes me feel not so far away from home. My father taught us to “never throw away anything that the birds can’t eat.” This reminded us to appreciate and respect all that our Creator has given us.
We endeavour to use as much naturally and locally sourced materials as possible in our products. From hunter to tanner, to supplier to artisan, these products are helping support indigenous families and small businesses across Turtle Island. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story!
